What to Wear Wednesday

What to Wear Wednesday inspired by GOLD!

Sometimes MORE is more! Especially when it comes to GOLD, just ask team USA!  This week I took Olympic GOLD and paired it with some throw back style inspired by Run D.M.C. and Jenny from the Block.  All of the necklaces are vintage pieces handed down to me from my grandmother's costume jewelry stash.  Layering chunky jewelry on top of a simple outfit adds a lot of spice.  It's just what I needed for this hump day!

What to Wear Wednesday

What to Wear Wednesday inspired by the Winter Olympics in Sochi!

Welcome to the first installment of the weekly What to Wear Wednesday (#wtww) posts.  Each week I'll pick a different inspiration and style an outfit straight from my very own closet.  The photos and location will be a little less "snazzy" than our Wear Your Closet and Styling the Basics posts but these shorter posts will serve as a perfect mid-week styling pick-me-up.

This week I felt it was most appropriate to pick the winter Olympics as my inspiration especially given the snowcalypse we're facing here in Charlotte.  I went for a Ralph Lauren inspired sweater by Cynthia Rowley coupled with my faux fur hat and boots.  The gingham button up brought in just enough blue to give the outfit some USA flare and my vintage Donna Karan medallion necklace (my favorite go-to necklace gifted to me by my boyfriend) is as good as a gold medal for this girl!  Hopefully this will inspire you as you dress for the snowy weather today and tomorrow!  GO USA!

Liz's Closet

Dressing Down the Sequins

Meet Liz, wife, friend, hands-on super mom of three, who's always on the go.  Little bear, Charlie, just hit the six month mark and never leaves mom's side.  Charlie has the sweetest disposition and Lauren captured some of the cutest mommy/daughter moments during the photo shoot that I'm so happy we can share!

For Liz, it was all about organizing, a little spring cleaning, and re-discovery.  I started by emptying her drawers one by one where we discovered every item she had forgotten about.  We separated out the items for the give-away pile and organized the drawers with winter items up front and summer in the back which will be flip-flopped in a couple of months when the sun finally comes out.  For the styling portion I pulled most of the pieces that she had commented on "I love that, but I never know what to wear with it."  You can see she has a very eclectic and colorful wardrobe.   I took the sequin shirt set aside for "clubbing" and paired it casually with her converse and a borrowed hat to show it's made for days at the playground.  I took the Gwen Stefani Harajuku-inspired balloon pants her husband Caleb (owner and designer of Enemy to Fashion) brought back for her from a buying trip to Japan and paired them with her casual Urban Outfitter tee, go-to jean jacket and statement heels for an evening out.  The second I saw her jean jumper, I new I wanted to style it.  Paired with the long sleeve shirt and high boots, the jumper is ideal for transitioning from winter to spring.  The bird claw with the garnet stone was the perfect finishing touch!

I styled a couple of Lauren's new stained glass pendant necklaces with a couple of Liz's outfits (see pictures 3, 4 and 16).  Check out her etsy store LifeThruGlass for the full inventory.  The colors add so much life to an outfit and the necklaces are surprisingly light around the neck which also rocks.  We also highlighted a bracelet by the talented Sheri McLennan, who's the lovely mother of Melissa showcased in this shoot.   She made the leather and brass bracelet shown in the jean jumper photos above.  Her etsy site is ArtisticallyAbbott

Hope this post helps inspire those new mamas out there to re-discover their wardrobe!
