Abi's Closet

Black Velvet - you're welcome for getting that song stuck in your head :)

Muted Layers

Spice It Up With Some Fringe

Classic Silhouette

Meet Abi, our fun-loving friend, who's crafty as hell with a sewing machine, has an amazing eye for thrifting, the sweetest mother of two tiny ladies and the perfect partner to her stud of hub Evan at 510 Expert Tattoo in NoDa.  Her self proclaimed style is French bohemian and she has the wardrobe to back it up.  Abi turned her laundry room into her personal sewing room/closet/retreat filled from ceiling to floor with colorful images, objects of various shapes and textures and of course her beautiful clothes.  Her favorite wardrobe pieces are hung on the wall like pieces of art.  Can you tell that I was jealous?!

For Abi, who has incredible style and is very aware of what silhouettes work best for her body, my aim was to provide a fresh perspective and also a way to style some of her more eccentric pieces into outfits that fit her everyday life which heavily revolves around her little babes.  Abi also suggested that we look at styling outfits based on mood.  It was clear shuffling through her wardrobe that she's typically drawn to colorful prints and textures but to her point she may not always be in the mood for making such a bold statement with her outfit.  By utilizing some layering techniques, we were able to tone down a brighter item and, on the flip side, turn up a more muted outfit with a flashier piece.

Abi keeps her clothing collection curated and seasonally displayed so although there was no need for a closet clean-out, I spent a little bit of time re-organizing.  I think every closet, even the most organized, can benefit from a once over and a re-organization.  Just having a new view of the clothes in your closet can help you spice up your outfits and avoid always going to your go-to items.

If you're wondering about those fantastic leather purses, you guessed it, Abi designed and made those babies from re-purposed leather she bought at the Metrolina Flea recently.  She only works with re-purposed leather in order to be more appealing to vegans and vegetarians and to ensure each piece is a one of a kind.  She'll be selling some of her homemade items at the upcoming Vintage Fair at the Fillmore Charlotte on November 15th.  Make sure to stop by her booth and say hello if you plan on going!

Happy Fall folks and we'll be back soon!
