Katie's Closet

Tie One On

Flight Attendant Hottie

A Girl Named Blue

The Archivist

It’s been a while since we’ve done a closet post and what a great shoot to come back on!  Meet Katie Howell and her little pup Blue.  Katie’s menswear inspired closet presented so many fun options to style.  For our session, we concentrated on work appropriate attire because she felt a little bit in a rut when it came to her weekday outfits.   For some of the outfits it was all about the accessories and playing with patterns and others it was about pairing menswear with more feminine clothing items to stay within her comfort level.  Katie admits she loves to wear cardigans and blazers and she really wears them well.  One thing I focused on was creating a waist for her by tucking in shirts or layering a blazer over a dress that has a seam at the waist.  These tricks accentuate the feminine form under the boxy blazer or long cardigan.

The beautiful backgrounds to our shoot are Lauren and Will’s home and Katie and her husband Mike’s home.  As you can see they’ve each put a lot of thought and work into making their space truly theirs.  Both of their spaces are sprinkled with hand me downs and collectibles that truly embody their roots and ancestry.  Even the scarves we accessorized with for the shoot were once part of Mike’s great aunt’s wardrobe which he was able to gift to Katie.

One more fun fact, two of the articles of clothing I styled in the shoot, Katie snagged at a recent clothing swap organized by a group of our girlfriends. If this idea interests you at all feel free to reach out.  I'd love to help you organize a similar event.  Sometimes it’s easier to give away stuff from your closet if you know it’s going to a friend!

Hope you feel inspired by Katie and her darling menswear! XO

What to Wear Wednesday

What to Wear Wednesday inspired by Black and White and the silver fox George Clooney!!!

What is more timeless than black and white?  Whether in dots, stripes or color blocking format, black and white ensembles always look chic.  When I first saw this photo of George Clooney, taken by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, I couldn't stop staring.  I loved the combination of the simple color scheme with all of the different sized polka dot patterns.  I used this inspiration to pair my polka dot scarf with my striped peplum top from Banana Republic. I also am slightly obsessed with break-out designer Rosie Assoulin who's design is shown in the last picture. Here's a link to her current collection.  Her items are so simple yet beyond elegant and glamorous.  I've been stashing money in my penny bank for a purchase from her collection for a while.  I still have some ways to go but a girls got to dream!  Meanwhile I'll be wearing my current closet and loving it. Happy Hump Day! XO

What to Wear Wednesday

What to Wear Wednesday inspired by Tights Free Legs!!!

It's that time of year when we can start shedding those layers.  At least in Charlotte you can! Transition your spring dresses by layering them with a thin tee or turtle neck.  You can add a statement necklace to blend the fabrics and you're set to go!  Better sharpen those razors because it's spring time ladies!
